We’re all at home wondering the same thing, right?
Is this really happening? And I can I actually be my kids’ teacher with the fortitude and focus to stick to the e-learning program? I hope so. And we will all figure out a schedule that works for our own family. There are tons of ideas floating around now on how we can keep our kids engaged and continue and support the learning process even thought they’re not in school. I wanted to share some of them here. I don’t want my kids to fall behind or lose what they’ve learned. Let’s keep those young minds engaged! I hope you’ll find these as interesting and helpful as I did:

Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems: This is so cool simply because my son LOVES Elephant and Piggy books. His second grade stories he creates follow the style of Mo Willems’ books. It looks like Mo will be posting a new video daily at Kennedy-center.org/education, although I’m not sure for how long. Click here and tune in! We will be.
Make Paducah FB Live Art Lessons: Each day, Make will go LIVE on facebook and give an art lesson to the kids. And they have provided a schedule in advance with necessary supplies so you can get ready and tune in.
Save With Stories: Actors Amy Adams and Jennifer Garner have partnered with SaveTheChildren.org and No Kid Hungry to raise awareness and support for children who depend on the warm meals, books and structure they receive at school. They will read children’s books on Instagram and post live videos. Click here to follow their account. This will give your kids at home a read-aloud if you need a few minutes BREAK.

Other Live Read-Alouds: Everyone’s favorite snowman, actor Josh Gad, will also read nightly children’s books on both his twitter and instagram pages. Check him out. Educational Shows on Netflix: YES, it’s okay if your kids watch a bit of TV. There are some shows that I have outlawed in my home, but this list of Netflix shows compiled by WeAreTeachers.com looks pretty cool. We will be checking some out over the coming weeks.
FREE Printables: There are so many out there this week, but check out the selection again from We Are Teachers - you can search by grade/age. And There is such a great variety. We are ALL Teachers it seems over the next handful of weeks. And here is a link to the supporting downloads for Ben’s Adventures children’s book.
Virtual Tour of Amazing Places: USA Today published an article this week highlighting some amazing places that are offers online tours or features on their websites - places such as the Great Wall Of China, the San Diego Zoo, The Guggenheim Museum, and many many more. Raise your hand if you survived Day 1 of the shutdown … thank you Coronavirus/COVID. I did too. We’ll make it, friends, even though the end may seem so far off at this point since we’re only at the starting line. This is what I have for now, and as I come across more cool ideas and ways to break up the day, I will share them here. Good luck to us all.
