My husband and I established the Ben Smiles Memorial Foundation (a 501(c)3 organization) in spring of 2017 because we felt strongly we wanted to support the special needs community. All kids learn through play, tactile and sensory stimulation, cause and effect, figuring out how things work - it is critical to their growth and development. But not all children have the typical motor movement (ability to grasp, limited or irregular functional arm movement, etc) that allows them to play with regular toys. Adapted toys are available but they are very expensive and most times not covered by insurance.
